Special Olympics Part-time Global Human Rights Internship

Begin your career today with Special Olympics that is now providing an excellent internship opportunity in global human rights which is a part-time program based in the District of Columbia.

The hired will work closely with members of the government relations department and the global youth engagement team to examine and support the alignment of special Olympics youth and schools programming with the UN convention on the rights of persons with disabilities.

They will also have the responsibility to review reports. Apart from this, they will work professionally, creatively and efficiently in a fast-paced environment, develop a deepened awareness of the human rights issues and make good connections that can be used as references for the job.

Special Olympics is a non-profit sports organization for children and adults with intellectual disabilities and physical disabilities. It was founded in 1968 by Eunice Kennedy Shriver and provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports.

Internship Location:

The internship is based in Washington, District of Columbia.

Internship Duration:

The interns will work for one semester.

Eligibility Requirements:

All candidates will be expected to meet all the given criteria:

  • Background in international relations or political science, with an emphasis on human rights
  • Some knowledge of or interest in disability inclusion, education, and non-profits.
  • Exhibit cultural sensitivity; be mindful of challenges facing marginalized populations and social justice issues.
  • Exceptional communication and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated capability to create written, visual and/or video content and writing, proofreading and research skills.
  • Detail-oriented, flexible, excellent time management skills and the ability to work independently to complete projects in a timely fashion.
  • Basic computer skills, including proficiency in email, internet research, and Microsoft Office.
  • Creative thinker with a genuine curiosity and investigative sensibility.
