NIH summer internship program will provide internships to outstanding high school, undergraduate, and graduate students interested in pursuing careers in the biomedical/biological sciences to work on a research project that entails exposure to the latest biochemical, molecular, and analytical techniques in a given field.

Eligibility Requirements:

This internship program is divided into two parts:

  1. NIEHS Summer Internship Program (SIP)

This internship is open for those candidates who:

  • are 18 years of age or older on June 15, 2019,
  • are in college (including community college) or graduate/professional school at the time of application, OR
  • are high school graduates at the time of application and have been accepted into accredited college or university programs, AND
  • are U.S. citizens or permanent residents (U.S. citizens may apply if they are enrolled at least half-time in an accredited college or university as an undergraduate, graduate, or professional students. Permanent residents must be enrolled in or, if they have already graduated from high school, have been accepted into an accredited institution of higher education in the U.S.)
  1. NIEHS High School Summer Internship Program (HS-SIP)

This internship is open for those candidates who:

  • are seventeen (17) years of age or older by June 15, 2019,
  • are high school juniors or seniors at the time of application,
  • are U.S. citizens or permanent residents. (U.S. citizens may apply if they are enrolled at least half-time in high school. Permanent residents must be enrolled in a high school in the U.S. to be eligible.), AND
  • live within 40 miles of the NIEHS campus, if under 18.

How to Apply:

Prospective candidates must apply online. It requires submission of:

  • a curriculum vitae or resume,
  • a list of coursework and grades (please note: we do not need a transcript at this time),
  • a cover letter describing the applicant’s research interests and career goals, and
  • the names and contact information for two references.

The applications are available from mid-December to March 1, 2019.
