Winchester Thurston School, a Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12 independent school in Pittsburgh, announces a search for a Technology Support Intern for summer 2020. The Technology Support Internship is a paid internship and will provide an opportunity for a student to learn about and work with supporting technology in a school setting. The incumbent will work as part of the Technology Team and may work with school administrators, staff, faculty, and students.
Winchester Thurston’s (WT’s) systems consist of Windows and Apple computers with Windows Active Directory, netbooks, Chromebooks and tablet computers (e.g., iPads, iPods and Android OS), multi-function copiers and printers, and Cisco switches and firewalls. The network offers a BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) option for personal devices, as well as remote access to the internal network.
The Technology Support Intern performs under the general direction of the Head of School and under the daily supervision of the Operational Technology Manager and the Assistant Head for Operations. The job functions will be dependent on the incumbent’s knowledge and experience as well as the current needs of the school and will be defined at the beginning of each internship assignment. In addition, the work schedule (days and hours of work) for the internship will be determined at the time of hire.
In general, following are some of the responsibilities that the Technology Support Intern will have.
Serve as a point of contact for technology, providing friendly, courteous support to assist users
Shadow Technology Department members as they provide support and training throughout the school, with the expectation that the Intern will provide support independently as mastery is achieved
Document and assess problems as well as determine the appropriate equipment needs and/or system requirements in collaboration with the Technology Department and utilizing WT’s established methods and procedures
Explore the possibility of a long-term project under the guidance of a Technology Department member
Assist in the preparation of hardware and facilities for the upcoming school year including, but not limited to: unpacking computer hardware, re-setting operating systems, deploying hardware, etc.
Troubleshoot and maintain copiers and printers, including training and replacing consumables
Perform other duties as assigned
Training, experience and/or some knowledge of operational technology
Desire to learn and expand knowledge/skills
Focus on customer service, exhibiting professionalism and courtesy in supporting users
Excellent communication, organizational and problem-solving skills
Ability to analyze situations and suggest solutions
Ability to work well in a team environment
