The Meshing Development Unit (MDU) is seeking an Intern for meshing algorithm development. The Intern will be part of a team which is responsible for research, design, and implementation of pre-processing functionality in support of multiphysics solvers. This work requires an analytical and curious mind with strong interest in mesh generation, computational geometry, numerical methods and software development. The background and experience, combined with the interest of the successful applicant will be considered for the work assignment. Topics of interest are algorithm development fr management and creation of simulation models which includes surface and volume mesh generation, geometric feature detection, as well as software infrastructure. Of special interest is machine learning applied to simulation model creation. The Intern will work closely with developers and other members from the meshing software development team.

This is a full-time opportunity where the intern will be working 40 hours per week.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Design and implement algorithms

Work efficiently in a complex mixed language code base, written in Python, C/C++, on Windows and Linux.

Participate in and collaborate with other development, documentation, and testing professionals.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Pursuing a PhD degree in Mechanical, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Computer Graphics or related engineering field.
Currently enrolled in a full-time degree program and returning to university after the completion of the internship program.
Knowledge of machine learning, mesh generation, computational geometry or computer graphics algorithms.
Experience with C/C++, MATLAB, and/or Python.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of physics simulation, e.g. FEM.
Interest in programming and data structures.
Prior experience of large scale software development.
