Summary:
We are looking for candidates in a graduate program in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related quantitative field with an emphasis in machine learning or deep learning. PhD students are preferred.

As a research team, we aim to create innovative machine learning and artificial intelligence research and applications by leveraging uniquely rich data offered by the insurance industry. The vast amount of unique data available for research includes large amount of unstructured text, drone and satellite images, customer call voice recordings, temporal sequences, etc. We are a group of machine learning and data scientists who are dedicated to build state-of-the-art ML models (including but not limited to natural language processing and generation, computer vision, human-in-the-loop, etc.) to create long term impact on our business. As a group of scientists, we are also actively engaging with the machine learning research community by publishing and open sourcing our work, and partnering with universities and institutes such as UW-Madison, Mila, Stanford and CMU. We are looking for smart, talented and motivated students with strong machine learning background to research some of the following areas:

• Knowledge Graph and representation learning
• NLP and language models
• Object detection and Computer Vision models
• Speech to text transcription
• Bandits algorithms and Reinforcement learning
• Other advanced artificial intelligence research topics including meta learning, network quantization and pruning

Publication record is a plus. Strong motivation to learn about the advancement of machine learning and artificial intelligence is a must.

We are excited to offer the Machine Learning Internships in our Digital Transformation Office in our Madison, WI office. Relocation to Madison Wisconsin for the internship is preferred. However, we are open for remote internships given the circumstances. Internship can start as soon as possible.

The purpose of the Internships is also to develop, establish and maintain strategies to meet organizational objectives. Effective management of assigned related activities will also be responsibilities of the position. The student intern works under the direction of a senior level scientist or/and manager to complete projects or tasks that support the business area goals and results. Performs tasks by adapting to new or changing situations in a team environment. Gathers information, plans and organizes work efficiently and effectively. Applies and learns technical skills appropriate to the specific job assignment.

Must be in pursuit of a post-secondary degree or certificate during the semester of the internship.
Pursuing post-secondary education in a related major to the internship.
Specialized Knowledge and Skills Requirements

Basic data processing skills using SQL, Pyspark and Python.
Working knowledge of AWS computing environment
Familiar with at least one of the following libraries: Tensorflow, Keras, Pytorch, Scikit-Learn
Basic knowledge and communication skills to work within a team environment.
Demonstrated experience providing customer-driven solutions, support or service
Basic analytical skills.
Basic knowledge and experience working within a team environment.
Basic knowledge of developing and managing project work.
