Position Summary:

This position is expected to work on-site during the summer of 2024.  The  Electrical Engineering Intern will be responsible for working on the design and development of new products and/or improvement of existing custom electronic and hybrid (electro-mechanical and electronic) controls and circuits based on customer requirements.  They will work independently and, on a team, to produce engineering solutions to relevant problems with a common end goal.  This position reports to the Engineering Manager and is based in Des Plaines, IL.

Core Responsibilities:

The Intern will work with members of the operations, manufacturing, and design engineering teams to resulting in the following:

Prepare functional schematics, circuit board layouts, material specifications, and debugging activities by using engineering skills and tools such as FMEA, tolerance studies, and SolidWorks.
Participate in building prototypes, the development of qualification test plans, and performing hands on electrical bench testing to verify software performs in accordance with system requirements.
Analyzes test data to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications.
Gain knowledge of customer insights/preferences to inform design decisions for new product development, or improvements to existing products.
Use engineering coursework/experience to come up with innovative solutions to address product design problems.
Develop understanding of prototyping and manufacturing processes to inform product design.
Proficiency in high-level programming languages like C or Python; ability to generate software/program microcontrollers for integrated circuits(s) to optimize embedded electrical systems.

Qualifications:

Job Requirements:

Rising Senior (graduating 2025) pursuing a BSME or BSEE.
Demonstrated experience designing mechanical elements and analyzing performance.
Competent working with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Previous internship experience in a manufacturing or operations function.
Strong attention to detail and strong problem-solving ability.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Eagerness to learn, demonstrated curiosity and a drive to excel.
Must enjoy being hands on.
Ability to travel to another ITW facility in New Berlin, WI as needed.
