Your Role and Responsibilities
Industrial designers design physical products, including their function, value, and appearance. They create products within a connected ecosystem for the mutual benefit of both user and manufacturer. As an intern in the Industrial Design Program, you‡ll work side-by-side with Industrial design professionals responsible for shaping the hardware product portfolio at IBM.
- Researching and understanding the user models and use context to inform designs, including psychology, anthropometrics, and ergonomics.
- Sketching and prototyping physically and digitally to communicate and test product concepts effectively
- Inciting desired user behavior through designed affordances, for enhanced usability
- Designing with consistent brand philosophy throughout product experience
- Designing for global context and market
- Applying knowledge and methods for quality and feasible use of materials, fit, and finish
- Designing for unified IBM portfolio and a connected ecosystem
- Accounting for the entire life cycle of a product including processes and systems that impact environmental sustainability
