The HHR Fall Intern Program is a 16-week immersive, professional research learning experience for students or recent graduates interested in pursuing a career in quantitative healthcare research. This intern position is tailored to support pharmacy-based health outcomes research. The intern will gain experience with real-world evidence generation through the design and conduct of a variety of research studies including comparative effectiveness analysis, disease characterization analysis, treatment patterns analysis, cost of care analysis and healthcare utilization analysis. The intern will participate in synthesizing, communicating, and presenting research findings to internal Humana business partners.

This is a part-time, remote position starting in November through March. Interns will have the opportunity to apply and strengthen their research skills in a supportive environment among a multi-disciplinary team of research experts. Responsibilities

The HHR Intern will participate in study team(s) and support research activities. Responsibilities will include some or all of the following:

  • Contributing to study conceptualization, literature reviews, proposal writing.
  • Protocol development.
  • Executing statistical analysis per specifications in study protocol and under supervision of experienced research scientists.
  • Reporting and interpretation of results.

By the completion of the internship, the student can expect to have:

  • Gain experience with real-world evidence generation through the design and conduct of a variety of research studies including comparative effectiveness analysis, disease characterization analysis, treatment patterns analysis, cost of care analysis and healthcare utilization analysis.
  • Gain experience synthesizing, communicating, and presenting research findings to various audiences.
  • Gain experience using a large claims database.

Position Qualifications

Required:

  • Currently pursuing (final-year student) or recently completed master’s or a PhD in pharmacy, outcomes research, epidemiology, pharmacoepidemiology, public health or health services research.
  • Experience in quantitative health outcomes research and analytics, and knowledge of statistical techniques.
  • Knowledge of causal inference methods or are expected to complete relevant course work on causal inference methods (e.g., propensity score analysis, inverse probability treatment weighting, interrupted time series analysis, regression discontinuity designs, instrumental variable analysis, and/or causal mediation analysis).
  • Ability to commit to at least part-time employment for 16-20 weeks beginning in November 2023.
  • Experience working collaboratively on research teams.
  • Proficiency in at least one statistical coding language.
  • Interest in a career in healthcare research.

Preferred:

  • Experience working in SAS and conducting analysis using a regression framework.
  • Experience in utilizing real-world data sources, such as claims databases and electronic health records, for observational studies and RWE generation.
  • Experience in scientific writing and/or manuscript authorship.
  • Enthusiastic to continue to learn and develop research methods skills.

Pay Range

The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay decisions will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc.

$31,200 – $85,100 per year
